Chinese Violin/Erhu Lessons & Performances by Fred Ji
Fred Ji is a performing artist on the Chinese musical instrument called the Erhu. The Erhu is an expressive two-stringed instrument played with a bow and is similar in range to a violin. During his 15 year performing career in China, which included extensive work with the Dance of Song Troupes of Shanxi Province and as a solo performing artist, he received many awards.
Mr. Ji is a proponent of the integration of the many disciplines of art in his homeland. Now living in the Seattle area, he teaches and performs Chinese music in many venues. His American debut performance on the Erhu took place on June 11, 2004 at the China Harbor Restaurant commemorating the 10th year anniversary of the Washington Overseas Chinese Artist Association and his performance met with rave reviews.
Mr. Ji was invited to the Seattle Rotary club to give a performance on June 28, 2004 in Seattle North Community College. He was also invited to the Seattle Art Museum to perform on April 7, 2005. Mr. Ji performed for the Art Institute of Seattle on June 2, 2005 during the World Cuisine and Culture Event where over 5,000 people attended. When the Seattle Asian Art Museum reopened on January 13, 2006 he was invited to perform in the Tateuchi Gallery.
Fred Ji is very enthusiastic about sharing his love of music with the Seattle community and he is available for individual lessons and public performances. For more information contact the Erhu Studio via email at:
Mr. Ji has very generously authorized me to offer one track from his 2nd CD as a sample of his music.
